The Freshmen 15
The freshmen fifteen is a phenomenon where freshmen at a college or university gain fifteen pounds, or a little over a stone, in only one year. Some possible reasons that this occurs is because the new students may not have high activity levels. For many students, the only exercise they are getting is walking to class. If the students were very active in sports during high school, this can cause an excess of calories. Another possible reason includes poor diet. Many campus eateries feature fast food and many unhealthy options, which the student may not be used to. There is a difference from dining hall grub to the balanced meals that used to be prepared at home. These two factors together are enough to cause serious weight gain. |
